In 2017, children’s ministries and Lutheran schools can choose to participate in a 4-week learning/giving experience called Hearts for Jesus. During this 4-week adventure, they learn of missions and ministries that share the love of Jesus with others. Over the years, the children and their families get a glimpse into the lives of others, some from far-away lands and others closer to home. Since 1972, chapel offerings during this 4-week time have raised anywhere from $2,000 to over $100,000 dollars. In the thirty-plus years, Michigan District Lutheran school chapel offerings have raised over 1.5 million dollars for over 40 mission and ministry projects.
WHOM DOES “HEARTS FOR JESUS” SUPPORT?
During the 500th anniversary year, Acts 2 Enterprise’s Sports Camp/VBS has been chosen as the 2017 Hearts for Jesus recipient through the Michigan District’s Here We Stand campaign. A2E campers come to the camp for five nights a week, completely free. Their registration is covered by generous donors to the ministry. A2E began with one camp the first year, branched into two camps the second season, and currently runs three camps.
In the summer of 2017, A2E will celebrate its fifth year through the Sports Camp/VBS as it builds relationships with unchurched residents in Detroit and surrounding communities. This ministry allows the youth to enjoy a safe and supportive evening event, where A2E volunteer missionaries share the love of Jesus using sports as the bridge.
