Here We Stand – August 2016 Update
Here We Send: Professional Church Worker Scholarships
One of the Here We Stand Campaign Initiatives focuses on raising funds for Church Worker Scholarships. These funds will help provide substantial scholarships given to those students who have committed their lives to serving the Church as professional church workers. We share below a note from two recipients of scholarship monies.
Moving to the seminary was a great adventure for our family. With the joy and excitement there was also anxiety and uncertainty, especially when it came to faithfully providing for our family’s needs while being a full-time student. My wife, Lisa, and I committed everything about seminary to prayer, knowing our Father sees our needs and knows how to provide for His children. The Michigan District’s financial support was part of His answer to our prayers. Because of the district support, our loans and other costs are less of a burden for us now: a gift during a moment of time with lasting impact.
This gift from Michigan, along with the other gifts, was a powerful reminder and encouragement when I was faced with doubts about being a pastor. It was a reminder of the church’s need for trained and called pastors, formed to humbly serve our Savior and His people. These gifts and reminders encouraged me to keep going, to remain focused at the seminary in hopes of being equipped to serve God’s people for many years.

Greetings in Christ! I am originally from Bear Lake, Mich. (near Traverse City), and my wife and I are delighted to return to our home district to serve my vicarage at Trinity, St. Joseph. Throughout the first two years of my seminary studies at Fort Wayne I received financial aid from the Michigan District. I cannot begin to say what a blessing it is to have the support of the district and her congregations! Prayerful and financial support at the seminary provide such peace and so greatly ease the burden of financing (and studying for!) an advanced degree. Words do not seem sufficient to express my gratitude to the many donors in our beloved district, but please know your gifts are greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for everything you do in support of our church and her schools. I join with you in praising God for the gifts He gives and enables us to share with one another. Praise Him from whom all blessings flow!
