Here We Stand – August 2018 Update

Here We Stand Campaign Supports Hmong Small Catechism

The Here We Stand International Ministry Initiative has recently supported the printing of a Hmong Small Catechism by donating $35,000 towards its completion. This project includes the full range of Christian vocabulary and Lutheran doctrine in the Hmong context that will make the Hmong catechism possible for wider use throughout the world.

Rev. Dr. Lang Yang, President of the Hmong Mission Society LCMS shares: “I thank God for His grace, mercy, and love through His people and the Here We Stand campaign that allows the LCMS Hmong Ministry to produce a new Blue Hmong Dialect of Luther’s Small Catechism. Hmong people will be able to learn the basic Christian faith in their native language and it will allow them to have a better understanding of God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.”

As of July 18, $1,287,054.76 has been designated to the Here We Stand International Ministry Initiative. From that total, $425,000 has been disbursed to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Middelburg, South Africa and another $100,000 is committed in 2018 for ministry expansion and needs. In 2017, a total of $75,000 was dispersed between eight Michigan District missionaries. The same amount is committed for 2018. In 2018, $90,000 has been committed to MOST Ministries’ work in South Africa.

Please continue to pray for the Michigan District and its congregations as they diligently work to disciple the saved and evangelize the lost through the four initiatives of this campaign: Professional Church Worker Scholarships, Innovative Missional Ministry, Michigan District Endowment, and International Ministry.
