Here We Stand – June 2017 Update

Here We Ride

Join us for Here We Ride, a FREE single-day bike-riding event on Saturday, August 5, 2017, to complement and celebrate the efforts of ‘The Reformation 500 Challenge’ exercise portion of the Here We Stand Campaign.

Starting and finishing at Bethany, Charlevoix, you and your family are encouraged to ride the distance you choose: rides of 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 miles are available (and anything in between—just turn around when it feels right).

Serious cyclists may choose to begin their day with snacks and a devotion at 7 a.m. while other riders can choose to participate in a pre-ride worship service and kickoff event at 9 a.m. before the big start at 10 a.m.

Here We Ride will take place on the Little Traverse Wheelway—a multi-use paved trail that skirts the beautiful waters of the Little Traverse Bay. There will be plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy the scenery, with happy volunteers stationed along the route. Everyone can ride (or walk or run) at their own pace. Side trips and alternate routes can easily include the beautiful cities of Charlevoix, Bay Harbor, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Alanson.

Around 2 p.m., the festivities and family-friendly after-party will begin back at Bethany. A picnic will be provided, games and bounce-houses will be available for the kids, along with some fun trophies (categories to be determined) to close out the day.

As mentioned above, Here We Ride is intended to be entirely FREE for ALL PARTICIPANTS. However, participants are encouraged to collect pledges for the miles they will ride on that day. We ask that you give 50 percent of the money raised to your church or school for its ministry purposes, and the remaining 50 percent to the Here We Stand campaign initiatives. In order to underscore the importance and effectiveness of what the Michigan District is doing in this 500th Year of the Reformation, there will be displays and representatives on hand to share more about all four of the Here We Stand fundraising initiatives.
