Here We Stand – May 2016 Update

Here We Stand : Worship, Witness, and Renewal

That’s the theme for our October 15, 2017 celebration worship event planned at the beautiful Breslin Center, on the campus of Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. Try to imagine 10,000 voices from across our Michigan District, in full throat and heart, as we sing the praises of our God for His faithfulness, love, and power! “A Mighty Fortress is our God!”

Our worship planning team is praying and planning for a 1,000-voice adult choir, representing the combined gifts of hundreds of our congregations. In addition, a composite children’s choir representing our many day schools and congregations with children’s worship choirs will participate. We are also seeking the participation of groups who will express the ethnic variety we enjoy among our sister congregations across the state.

The Rev. Dr. Patrick Ferry will serve as our preacher for this special service. Dr. Ferry serves as the president of Concordia University with campuses in Mequon, WI (CUW) and in Ann Arbor, MI (CUAA). His theme will be, “Here we stand!  Here we go!”

Over the coming months more information will be provided that will outline and encourage you to get personally involved in this exciting worship celebration. We are developing an easy-to-use registration process for individuals or groups to sign up for participation in choirs, ushering, pre-service events, and more. In cooperation with Wellspring, we are planning a huge Great Compassion ingathering that will be distributed to shelters and food pantries throughout the greater Lansing area.

Plan now to be in attendance! We encourage congregations to consider renting a bus and let someone else do the driving. Invite friends and family to join you for this once-in-a-lifetime celebration! This will be a free event; tickets will be used for seating purposes only.
