Here We Stand – September 2016 Update

Reformation Reading Plan for Students

“Crafted By Truth” #CraftedDaily

As part of the Here We Stand campaign, we have organized a way for students to connect to this celebration of the Reformation. We plan to reach the students in an authentic Reformation experience titled “Crafted By Truth!”

We have combined Luther’s focus on Scripture alone with Gutenberg’s expansion of laypeople’s access to the word through the latest technology (printing press) and developed a plan to excite, equip, and enable students across the District to read through the entire Bible between October 2016 and October 2017. Our reading plan will culminate with and be celebrated at the District-wide Reformation Service at The Breslin Center on Sunday, October 15, 2017.

The key part of the Bible reading campaign is a partnership with YouVersion, a popular Bible reading app. YouVersion will host the “Crafted By Truth” Reformation Reading Plan designed specifically for this campaign. Students will easily be able to access the plan on any of their electronic devices and receive daily reading selections. The plan provides the books of the Bible in the order that they impacted Luther’s rediscovery of the Gospel. Students will be challenged to read the entire Bible, but they may also choose to read just the New Testament.

We will support this effort in a number of ways: 1) we will provide a separate website, CraftedDaily.com, for information and blogging; 2) students from Concordia University Ann Arbor, will host a Facebook page and employ other means of social media to build a community for the Bible readers; and 3) through video testimony, we hope to follow individuals or student groups as they go through this experience.

Youth leaders from around the District have begun to get involved. They will reach out to Lutheran high school students, youth groups, and college ministries to build participation.

While the reading portion of the campaign will officially begin on Sunday, October 16, 2016, students (and anyone else) will be able to access the YouVersion app at any time.
